Este artigo é derivado da detalhada análise material do exemplar da primeira edição do livro Os Lusíadas, de Luís Vaz de Camões, datado de 1572, pertencente ao acervo do Real Gabinete de Leitura, localizado no Rio de Janeiro. O texto apresenta, através da análise das materialidades, as características tipográficas que individualizam o exemplar, a trajetória dos processos de restauração e reencadernação pelos quais passou. O estudo, que busca nas metodologias da Codicologia, da Bibliografia material e da Conservação e do Restauro sua base, indica a raridade e a unicidade do exemplar que conta a sua própria história através das marcas deixadas pelo tempo e pelo homem.
This article is based on a detailed material analysis of a copy of the first edition of the book Os Lusíadas, by Luís Vaz de Camões, dated 1572, belonging to the collection of the Royal Reading Room, located in Rio de Janeiro. Through an analysis of the material, the text presents the typographic characteristics that individualize the copy, and the trajectory of the restoration and rebinding processes it underwent. The study, which seeks its basis in the methodologies of Codicology, Material Bibliography, and Conservation and Restoration, indicates the rarity and uniqueness of the copy that tells its own story through the marks left by time and man.
