A reiterada idéia de atraso da produção teatral brasileira, levou a autora a investigar o campo
discursivo em que está locada. Ao aproximar o pensamento crÃtico de Machado de Assis ao processo de
profissionalização do artista de teatro das primeiras décadas do século XX, a autora aproxima polÃtica e
economia. Mostra nesse ensaio que a regulamentação da profissão do artista de teatro se baseia na
organização fabril. A conseqüência imediata é a transformação das companhias teatrais em pessoa
jurÃdica. Generalisam-se os contratos de trabalho e transforma-se o artista em operário da cena e, como
tal, sujeitado às regras da produtividade.
The repeated delay of the idea of theatrical prodution in Brazil, led the author to
investigate the discuourse that is leased. When approaching the critical thinking of Machado de Assis in
the process o professionalization of a theater of the first decades of the twentienth century, the author
brings politics and economics. Test shows that the regulation of the profession of a theater is based on
industrial organization. The immediate consequence is the transformation of theater companies in the
legal entity. Generalisam to employment contracts and becomes the artist’s labor scene, and as such,
subjected to the rules of productivity.
