We start, in the present communication, from the idea of the need for a history of Romanian language translations, with the main objective of recognizing translation as an integral part of the heritage of the Romanian language and culture. It also presupposes recognition of its dialogical dimension, openness to other languages and cultures. We will then identify the translators of this work and the context in which they worked on either fragmentary or full translations, in periodicals or in volume. We will reconstruct, within the limits of an article, the profile and position of each translator, his motivations, as they are present (where this is the case) in the paratextual apparatus. The latter, elaborated by the translator, by literary critics and / or historians, will also be the subject of our analysis. In conclusion, we propose to see how a translation like Proust's can help to develop the possibilities of expression of the host language and literature. We will analyze, first of all, the time lag between the publication of the original and the publication of the first fragmentary and volume translations, comparing this situation with that of the translation of other important works of the French literary heritage.
