Neste texto, temos o intento de discutir as diferentes referências e
pontos de vista que dizem respeito ao debate historiográfico que trata
das origens do aparato fiscal e sua relevância para o processo de
centralização do poder real e as consequências políticas deste
fenômeno para a Coroa Portuguesa1. Para além disso, procuraremos
também observar algumas nuances importantes relativamente à
construção dos alicerces administrativos e fiscais portugueses para os
finais da Idade Média. Num período fundamental para a
consolidação do Estado e, ao mesmo tempo, pressionado por uma
série de iniciativas militares levadas à cabo pelos monarcas de Avis, a
montagem da base tributária do reino é um dos pilares essenciais
deste processo e algo concomitante às decisões políticas
fundamentais dentro deste contexto.
In this paper, we have the intention to discuss the different references and
views concerning the historiographical debate that deals with the origins of
the fiscal apparatus and its relevance to the centralization process of the
Royal power and the political consequences of this phenomenon to the
Portuguese Crown. Moreover, we will also try to observe some important
features regarding the construction of the Portuguese administrative and
fiscal foundations for the late Middle Ages. As a crucial period for the
consolidation of the State and at the same time, pressed for a series of
military initiatives undertaken by Avis monarchs, the assembly of the tax
base of the kingdom is one of the pillars of this process and something
concomitant to essential political decisions in this context.
