Protein phosphorylation has been recognized as an important mechanism in the control of cellular activities. There are several ways to measure the 32 P labeling of phosphoproteins separated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, including autoradiographic film densitometry, liquid scintillation and Cerenkov radiation. This work compares these different procedures and points out the advantages of using Cerenkov radiation to measure the incorporation of radioactive phosphate into proteins.
