Neste artigo procurou-se examinar o crescimento dos grupos religiosos no ambiente urbano, a quebra do domínio do catolicismo e o fortalecimento, principalmente, das denominações evangélicas, e como isso tem mudado o cenário religioso das cidades no país. As transformações que vêm ocorrendo no cenário urbano brasileiro criam e recriam novos paradigmas gerando e adaptando culturas específicas, causando uma mescla de formas religiosas que combinam o velho e o novo, diante da exigência de adaptação as diversidades culturais que surgem no espaço geográfico. Verificou-se, ainda, que o catolicismo demonstra não estar preparado para o processo pelo qual vem passando as urbes.

In this article we tried to examine the growth of religious groups in the urban environment, the break of Catholicism‟s domain and the strengthening, and the strengthening, especially, of the evangelical denominations, and how this has changed the religious scene of the cities of the country. The transformations that have been occurring in the Brazilian urban scene create and recreate new paradigms generating and adapting specific culture causing a mixture of religious forms that combine the old and the new due to the requirement of adaptation cultural diversities that arise in the geographical space. It was also verified that Catholicism demonstrates that it is not prepared for the process that has been happening in the cities.
