O presente artigo é um avanço nas discussões iniciadas na produção da dissertação de mestrado “Olhares sobre a Umbanda”, concluído em 2012. Como proposta, trata-se de uma leitura com referenciais marxistas, interpretando a umbanda como um fazer social, em que trabalhadores estabelecem diferentes formas de se relacionarem com a cidade, seja por meio de enfrentamento e lutas, seja por meio da aceitação e resilição. Assim, o ritual da umbanda e a cosmogonia desta religião assumem um papel secundário, pois é mais importante identificar a experiência social elaborada pelos sujeitos e as pressões que se desenvolvem da cidade contra estes grupos.

Abstract

This article is a breakthrough in the discussions initiated in the production of the dissertation "Perspectives on Umbanda", concluded in 2012. As proposed, it is a reading with Marxist reference, interpreting Umbanda as a social do, where workers establish different ways of relating to the city, whether through confrontation and struggle, either through the acceptance and termination. Thus, the ritual of Umbanda and the cosmogony of this religion play a secondary role, it is more important to identify the social experience elaborated by the subjects and the pressures that develop the city against these groups.
