In this paper, we explore the possibility of approximation between the poetry of Manoel de Barros and the painting of René Magritte. For this, we use a comparative approach between some works of both artists. More precisely, we select “La clef des songes” (1930) and “La trahison des images” (1928-1929), from René Magritte, and “O muro”, a poem of Manoel de Barros that appears in the book Poemas rupestres (2004). From the comparative approach, we analyse the way how Magritte and Barros work the question about the world representation. Making use of metalanguage, René Magritte and Manoel de Barros reaffirm, in their respective poetics, a process of revelation of language systems arbitrariness. Moreover, Magritte and Barros sustain the conception of legitimation of art in the proposition of new ways of world recoding and perception.
