Many of public institutions have, in the form of a publication or even projects and memorials, the concern to tell their peers and general public its institutional history. This is a particular way of establish a Public History - produced to constitute a group identity and/or reaffirm the institutional role in society, but who (voluntarily or not) serves as a source for historians and researchers interested in constituting a more critical view on formation of these bodies. One of ways chosen by the institutions is using memories of its former members, which support to build a homogeneous view and therefore, somewhat contradictory for obscure conflicts in these spaces. We intend to detain in the case of memories of old members of Ministério Público do Rio Grande do Sul (Public Prosecution of Rio Grande do Sul - MPRS) between years 1940 to 1970 and the first publications in the series "Life Stories of the prosecutor." We pretend to discuss the implications of these sources through examples present in memories: from those chosen to recall their experiences to the ways of how reminded their experiences, thus scoring a strong clash between the discourse of unity prosecutors and the absences and silences that contradicted them.
