In this paper, our purpose is to investigate the representations that prospective teachers of
English as a Foreign Language have of the internet and its implications for the constitution of a new
professional identity in the XXI century. Based on the Grounded Theory, data analysis revealed that the
countless Internet tools may have a positive or a negative influence on the foreign language learning.
Therefore, the teacher will have to know how to manipulate them properly in order to achieve his/her
learners’ objectives. In addition, by making use of such tools, the teacher’s identity is re-signified, rebuilt or completely changed.
