There is in the human being an innate capacity to create meanings related to entities, facts, events, tools and relationships. In the process of engendering this mosaic of signs and imagery, social representations emerge. These representations are characterized by containing the symbolic intensity of man, causing spatial and temporal diffusion of symbolic characteristics represented, i.e. culture of a society. The geographical space has a leading role in such a scenario, materializing the representations. It is on the scope of objective reality, of the world itself that the symbolic units of perdurability of a society are created. With these premises we aim at providing a conceptual and methodological deepening of the analysis of social representations in geographic space, making up for this purpose a literature review followed by the confluence of theories and frameworks that support the canon of a geography of social representations.
