Este artigo discutirá as contradições que envolvem o programa de Residência Multiprofissional em Saúde (RMS) no âmbito do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) que no discurso oficial propõe mudanças na formação e no modelo de atenção à saúde visando fortalecer o SUS, entretanto, se insere em uma conjuntura de precarização do trabalho e da política de saúde. Compreende-se a inserção do Serviço Social na RMS como categoria importante pelo potencial de fortalecimento da perspectivada Reforma Sanitária e do seu projeto Ético Político profissional, considerando sua relativa autonomia e a realidade de contrarreformas. Destacaremos as principais tendências e desafios através do regate histórico -documental da RMS e da pesquisa qualitativa desenvolvida com profissionais de um Programa de Residência Multiprofissional da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Problematizaremos os dilemas da formação e do trabalho vivenciado pela RMS e sua estratégia de expansão no país e pontuaremos seus desafios e possibilidades, principalmente ao Serviço Social.

This article will discuss the contradictions that surround the Multiprofessional Health Residency (RMS) program within the Unified Health System (SUS), which in the official discourse proposes changes in the training and health care model aimed at strengthening the SUS, however, inserts in a conjuncture of precarious work and health policy. It is understood the inclusion of Social Service in the RMS as an important category for the potential of strengthening the planned Sanitary Reform and its Professional Political Ethical project, considering its relative autonomy and counterreform reality. We will highlight the main trends and challenges through the historical-documentary dodge of RMS and the qualitative research developed with professionals of a Multiprofessional Residency Program of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. We will problematize the dilemmas of the formation and work experienced by RMS and its strategy of expansion in the country and we will highlight its challenges and possibilities, mainly Social Work
