Este ensaio propõe reflexões iniciais sobre drones: (1) como se relacionam com o ciberespaço, e (2) como podem afetar a condução da guerra no século XXI. Além disso, o texto também explora a (3) relação entre o uso crescente de robôs em campo de batalha e os processos de globalização e digitalização a partir da ótica da Economia PolÃtica Internacional. Ele está dividido em duas seções. A primeira seção apresenta brevemente – a partir da experiência norte-americana da Guerra ao Terror – alguns dos problemas oriundos do uso de drones em campo de batalha. As decorrências do emprego doméstico de veÃculos aéreos não tripulados (VANTs) também são abordadas na primeira parte do ensaio. A segunda seção analisa a proliferação de robôs como decorrência dos processos de globalização e digitalização atualmente em curso. Conclui-se, ao final do texto, que a “robotização†é uma consequência e uma tendência natural da Era Digital.
This essay poses some initial reflections on (1) how drones relate to the cyberspace and (2) how they affect the conduct of war in the 21st century. In addition, it explores (3) the theoretical and practical relationship between the processes of globalization and digitization from an International Political Economy perspective and the increasing use of robots in the battlefield. The text is divided in two sections. The first briefly presents some of the issues arising from the use of drones in battle from the American War on Terror experience, as well as the consequences of the domestic employment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The second section delves into the proliferation of robots as a feature of two processes currently underway: globalization and digitization, and presents evidence that shows that “robotization†is not only a natural consequence but also a structural trend of the Digital Age.
