The maturation of Sao Tome and Principe occurs in the light of racial antagonisms, gaps in
the economic and social area and political instability. Whereas in the country the globalization
is involved with the very particular local dynamics, there remains the need for renovation and
appropriate management of the institutions and their respective performance. The paper aims to
conduct a historical review of the post-independence, trying to delineate the various possibilities
of political developments in the archipelago.
