From the chloroform extract of leaves of Jacaranda micrantha Cham., A photoquinol was isolated and even identified as ethyl 1-hydroxy-4-oxo-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-acetate. The isolated compound was tested in order to verify possible antibacterial and antifungal activity. The tests were negative against the fungi Aspergillus niger ATCC 16404 and Candida albicans ATCC 10231, demonstrating, on the other hand, activity against the following bacteria: Sthapylococcus aureus ATCC 6538P and Sthaphylococcus aureusATCC 25923. The chloroform extract was tested for its antineoplastic activity , resulting in negative results.
