Este artigo objetiva refletir criticamente sobre a pandemia de COVID-19 no Brasil e o Serviço Social, sobretudo a partir da centralidade da atuação no âmbito da saúde, retomando, inclusive, o urgente e necessário debate da reforma sanitária. A introdução analisa a chegada do novo coronavírus ao Brasil e como a profissão encontra espaço para sua ação. Em seguida, apresentamos os significados da pandemia, expondo o abandono de uma parte significativa da população, para logo depois, discutirmos as relações entre pandemia, “questão social” e o projeto ético político do Serviço Social. Os resultados nos mostram que há um inúmeras contribuições de autores do Serviço Social e também de outras áreas das Ciências Humanas que nos ajudam construir a percepção de que, apesar da epidemia do COVID-19 ser um fenômeno global, em função da brutal desigualdade brasileira, esta expõe desafios ainda maiores, por sua configuração a partir de contextos e espaços sociais diversos. Por isso, por fim, indicamos possíveis caminhos para o enfrentamento da crise a partir de uma agenda política.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil and Social Work, mainly from the centrality of the action on health, including the urgent and necessary debate on health reform. The introduction analyzes the arrival of the new coronavirus in Brazil from the perspective of critical social theory. Then, the current outcome of the pandemic is presented, showing the neglect suffered by a large part of the population. In addition, the relation between the pandemic, “social issue” and the ethical-political project of Social Work is discussed. The results show us that there are countless contributions from Social Work authors and also from other areas of Human Sciences that help us to build the perception that, despite the epidemic of COVID-19 being a global phenomenon, due to the brutal Brazilian inequality, it exposes even greater challenges, due to its configuration from different contexts and social spaces.Thefore, finally, we indicate possible strategies to fight this crisis from a political agenda.
