Desde os anos 70, a população de idosos cresceu em termos proporcionais, mais do que qualquer outra faixa etária no Brasil. Mas, ainda a sociedade banaliza o tema sexualidade na terceira idade e os próprios idosos convivem com falsos mitos e tabus, adquiridos pela educação repressora recebida no passado. O presente estudo teve como objetivo investigar os conhecimentos das idosas do grupo “Ande bem com a Vida”, a respeito de sexualidade, conhecimento e prevenção de DST/AIDS. Como processo metodológico, os pesquisadores utilizaram o método da pesquisa descritiva de abordagem qualitativa. A partir dos dados coletados nas entrevistas semiestruturadas, observou-se que a maioria das idosas considera sexualidade e ato sexual sendo sinônimos. A pesquisa mostrou ainda que quase todas as mulheres entrevistadas afirmaram ser possível ter uma vida sexual ativa e saudável na terceira idade. Entretanto, o dado mais preocupante foi em relação à utilização de preservativo após os 50 anos, pois nenhuma das entrevistadas utiliza esse método. Hoje, o modo com que essas idosas encaram sua sexualidade é reflexo da educação repressora recebida no passado, e tendo como consequência muitas dúvidas, medos e preconceitos a respeito desse tema, fazendo com que não usufruam de sua sexualidade nesse momento da vida. Logo, a pesquisa mostrou a necessidade de levar informações sobre sexualidade a essa faixa etária, o que permitirá a aquisição de conhecimento sobre o assunto, acabando com os mitos, tabus e informações errôneas.

Since the 70s, the elderly population grows in proportional terms, more than any other age group in Brazil. But even the sex in old age is trivialized by society and even the elderly live with false myths and taboos, acquired by repressive education received in the past. This study aims to investigate the knowledge of the older group “Ande bem com a Vida,” about sexuality, knowledge and prevention of STD / AIDS. As the methodology, we used the descriptive qualitative approach. From the data collected in semi-structured interviews, it was observed that for the majority of elderly consider sexual intercourse and being synonymous, although we note that almost all respondents believe it is possible to have an active sex life and healthy in old age, but more worrying was given regarding the use of condoms after 50 years, none of the respondents using this method. Today the way in which these elderly face their sexuality is a reflection of the repressive education received in the past, and as a result of having many doubts, fears and prejudices on this subject, making it impossible to enjoy their sexuality in this time of life. Then it highlights the need to bring information about sexuality in this age group, allowing the acquisition of knowledge on the subject, shattering the myths, taboos and misinformation.
