Sobre a disputa acerca do método da Teologia da Libertação: debate com Clodovis Boff

O artigo de Clodovis Boff (2007) chamando a teologia para voltar ao seu fundamento provocou uma série de discussões acerca do método e da epistemologia, sobretudo dentro do universo da teologia latino-americana da libertação. O contexto era o daConferência de Aparecida e, naquele espírito, o texto apresentado na REB pretendia analisar a relação Cristo-pobre e o rigor do fundamento a partir do qual a teologia deve se orientar. Susin, Hammes, Leonardo Boff, Aquino Jr. e outros teólogos contra argumentaram e, cada um a partir de suas inquietações, produziram, também na REB, uma grande página na história da Teologia. Tal debate é visto por nós como uma verdadeira disputatiocapaz de criar novos horizontes e novos caminhos de pesquisa e produção criativa no âmbito da ciência teológica, levando em conta a seriedade dos termos e a profundidade dos argumentos. O nosso artigo, por sua vez, não tem como objetivo se prender às polêmicas que daí resultaram, mas, indo além, busca expor as teses apresentadas por Clodovis, as antíteses levantadas pelos demais teólogos e, por fim, as sínteses que nasceram deste rico diálogo epistêmico.

Clodovis Boff’s (2007) article calling for theology to return to its foundation provoked a series of discussions about method and epistemology, especially within the universe of Latin American liberation theology. The context was that of the Aparecida Conference and, in that spirit, the text presented at REB intended to analyze the Christ-poor relationship and the rigor of the foundation on which theology should be oriented. Susin, Hammes, Leonardo Boff, Aquino Jr., and other theologians argued and, each from their concerns, produced, also in REB, agreat page in the history of Theology. Such a debate is seen by us as a real disputatio capable of creating new horizons and new paths of research and creative production within the scope of theological science, taking into account the seriousness of the terms and the depth of the arguments. Our article, on the other hand, does not aim to focus on the polemics that resulted from it, but, going further, seeks to expose the theses presented by Clodovis, the antitheses raised by the other theologians and, finally, the syntheses that were born of this rich epistemic dialogue.
