O artigo analisa as diferentes masculinidades presentes no quadrinho Batman, ano um (2011), do roteirista Frank Miller e do ilustrador David Mazzucchelli. Cruza-se esse conceito com as posições de masculinidade exercidas pelos protagonistas da obra, desdobrando a investigação nos seguintes itens: a) introdução da construção de masculinidades nos quadrinhos de super-heróis de origem estadunidense; b) análise das masculinidades exercidas pelos protagonistas da história em estudo; c) a presença da masculinidade hegemônica na construção de Bruce Wayne, seu alter ego Batman e a influência que esse protagonista exerce em outros personagens. Reflete-se sobre o desenvolvimento dos personagens masculinos ao longo da trama analisada, aventando o caráter pedagógico do quadrinho em foco e a possibilidade desta obra motivar seus leitores a consumirem masculinidades outras, como
aqui apresentadas. Conclui-se que aspectos como as ações violentas do personagem central, recorrentemente por ele exercidas e veiculadas nos meios de comunicação de Gotham City, ao longo da história analisada, contribuem para determinar uma hegemonia masculina sobre
seus opositores. Além disso, essas ações estabelecem um paradigma que é tanto emulado quanto contra-atacado, mesmo sendo enaltecido pelas autoridades e pela população. Esse fenômeno contribui para uma escalada interminável de violência, tanto em busca de justiça quanto em sua defesa.
The article deals with an analysis of the different masculinities present in the comic Batman, year one (2011), by the screenwriter Frank Miller and the illustrator David Mazzucchelli. This concept is crossed with the positions of masculinity exercised by the protagonists of the work, unfolding the investigation into the following items: a) introduction of the construction of masculinities in superhero comics of American origin; b) analysis of the masculinities exercised by the protagonists of the story under study; c) the presence of hegemonic masculinity in the construction of Bruce Wayne, his alter ego Batman and the influence that this protagonist exerts on other characters. Reflects on the development of male characters throughout the analyzed plot, suggesting the pedagogical character of the comic in focus and the possibility of this work encouraging its readers to consume masculinities presented here. It is concluded that aspects such as the central character’s violent actions—repeatedly enacted and portrayed through Gotham City’s media throughout the story—contribute to establishing a masculine hegemony over his adversaries. Furthermore, these actions set a paradigm that is both emulated and challenged, even as it is praised by authorities and the public. This phenomenon contributes to an endless escalation of violence, both in the pursuit of and in defense of justice.
