The knowledge about the mesposaur reptiles had an initial phase between the end of the last century and the beginning of this one, where the discoveries of the first specimens were disseminated in South America and Africa. A second phase, comparatively little increase, in which the authors referring to these reptiles were restricted only to different interpretations regarding the taxonomy of the group. The third phase begins approximately in the mid-1960s and marks the beginning of a series of works on the group, characterized by the integrated analysis of taxonomic, paleoenvironmental and paleobiogeographic evidence. The purpose of this communication is to offer a succinct version of the current state of knowledge about these reptiles, from the perspective of previous work
