Objetivou-se investigar as relações existentes entre produção, sustentabilidade e sucessão geracional de propriedades leiteiras em Minas Gerais. Utilizou-se a Modelagem de Equações Estruturais para testar nove hipóteses identificadas na literatura sobre o tema. Propriedades social e economicamente sustentáveis podem contribuir com o aumento da sucessão familiar. Além disso, propriedades que produzem mais leite podem ter maiores possibilidades de contribuírem para que jovens permaneçam na atividade leiteira. A sucessão geracional foi influenciada, de forma direta, pela sustentabilidade econômica e social e, de forma indireta, pela escala de produção.
The objective was to investigate the existing relationships between production, sustainability and generational succession of dairy farms in Minas Gerais. Structural Equation Modeling was used to test nine hypotheses identified in the literature on the subject. Socially and economically sustainable properties can contribute to increasing family succession. In addition, properties that produce more milk may have greater possibilities of contributing to young people remaining in the dairy activity. The generational succession was directly influenced by economic and social sustainability and, indirectly, by the scale of production.
