Rather than through mere representation
of architectural motifs, photography of
architecture is defi ned by its proposal of a
concept of image. This notion is transformed
in each period in a parallel way to the
development of photographic technology:
while in the 19th century architectural photography
will center itself on the resolution
of technical problems of representation and
will aim to achieve an analog image to that
of canonic architectural drawing, in the
20th century its interest will shift from a
thematical stance to expression of style,
and, fi nally, to a conceptual formula.
Más que defi nirse en base a su representación
de motivos arquitectónicos,
lo que identifica a la fotografÃa de
arquitectura es su propuesta de un
concepto de imagen. Éste se transformará
en cada época de modo paralelo
al desarrollo de la tecnologÃa fotográfi
ca: mientras que en el siglo XIX la
fotografÃa de arquitectura se abocará
a resolver los problemas técnicos y de
representación que le permiten presentarse
como una imagen análoga al
dibujo arquitectónico canónico, en el siglo
XX su interés oscilará del desarrollo
temático a la expresión estilÃstica y,
fi nalmente, a una fórmula conceptual.
