O presente trabalho propõe-se a analisar a obra do escritor brasileiro Cristovão Tezza, O Filho Eterno, de 2007, e a tradução para língua inglesa, The Eternal Son, de 2013, de Alison Entrekin sob a perspectiva dos Estudos da Tradução Baseados em Corpus (BAKER, 1993, 1996) e da Linguística de Corpus (BERBER SARDINHA, 2004). Em consonância com as teorias norteadoras do campo da Literatura Comparada, os Estudos da Tradução superam perspectivas de equivalência e fidelidade para assumir a compreensão da tradução como um objeto per se (BAKER, 1996). Dessa forma, prima-se por identificar comportamentos inerentes ao texto traduzido de modo a contribuir para a compreensão dos processos, das características e, em última instância, do fenômeno da tradução. Este trabalho focaliza a tendência de simplificação – omissão e consequente redução no texto traduzido em comparação ao original – e explicitação – inserções explicativas e consequente aumento na tradução. A identificação e análise de tais características configuraram-se como uma tendência a aproximar o texto original a cultura e língua alvo, facilitando por meio de inserções ou omissões a leitura e fluidez para o público-alvo. A análise de toda a extensão dos subcorpora computados na pesquisa tornou-se possível por meio do suporte da ferramenta digital, WordSmith Tools 6.0.

The following paper aims at analyzing the book by the Brazilian author Cristovão Tezza, O Filho Eterno, 2007, and the translation for the English language The Eternal Son, 2013, by Alison Entrekin under the perspective of Translation Studies based on Corpus (BAKER, 1993, 1996) and the Corpus Linguistics (BERBER SARDINHA, 2004). In accordance with theories that guide the field of Comparative Literature, the Translation Studies overcome the perspectives of equivalence and fidelity to come down to the comprehension of the translation as a per se object (BAKER, 1996). Nevertheless, we aimed at identifying behaviors intrinsically related with the translated text in a way that we could contribute withe the comprehension of the processes, characteristics and ultimately with the translation phenomena. This work pinpoints at the tendency of simplification – omission and consequently reduction on the translated text when compared with the original – and explicitation – explanatory insertions and consequently increase in the translation. Identifying and analyzing such characteristics showed that there is a tendency to bring the translation closer to the target culture and language, making the reading easier and more fluent by the use of insertions or omissions for the target public. The analysis of the whole subcorpora extension was only possible by the use of a digital tool, WordSmith Tools 6.0.
