Neste texto procuro relacionar as situações políticas nacionais com as atitudes dos letrados brasileiros em relação à diferenças linguísticas. Surpreendentemente, parece haver uma constante oscilação da cidade letrada: quando vivemos situações políticas de estado de direito, com a distribuição do exercício do poder que chama para seus quadros o mundo letrado, há um acirramento do preconceito linguístico; quando vivemos estados de exceção, ao contrário, os letrados aproximamse do povo e de seus modos de falar.
This text aims at relating the situation of the national policies with the literate Brazilian attitudes towards the language differences. Surprisingly, it seems that there is a constant oscillation of the literate city: whereas we face political situations of the social state of rights with the distribution of the exercise of power which summons the literate world, there is a reinforcement of language prejudice; whereas we live in a state of exception, on the contrary, the literate individuals bring the people and their ways of speaking together.
