A necessidade de se obter um método de processamento otimizado em determinadas aplicações é cada vez mais comum, no cenário industrial. A moldagem por injeção, utilizando in mold label, é uma técnica que é usada para decorar superfícies de peças poliméricas. Neste artigo, essa técnica foi estudada como alternativa para substituir o processo de metalização a vácuo em peças injetadas com o polímero ABS, onde uma fita de poli tereftalato de etileno (PET), contendo uma fina camada metálica, com o formato semelhante à cavidade, é inserida no molde. Então, o polímero fundido é injetado, e a metalização contida na fita se transfere para a superfície do polímero (peça) com a ação da temperatura e pressão. Este artigo apresenta uma visão geral sobre alguns métodos de decoração existentes, começando com um resgate do contexto histórico dos proces-sos. Para finalizar, discute-se as vantagens em substituir o método de metalização, as dificuldades e adaptações, que podem ser encontradas, quando o processo de in mold label é adotado para metalizar peças poliméricas.
The need to obtain an optimized processing method in certain applications is increasingly common in the industrial scenario. The injection molding, using in mold label, is a tech-nique that is used to decorate surfaces of polymer parts. In this paper, this technique was studied as an alternative to replace the vacuum metallization process in parts injected with the ABS polymer, where an ethylene poly terephthalate (PET) tape, containing a thin metal layer, similar to the cavity shape, is inserted into the mold. The molted polymer is injected and the metallization contained in the tape is transferred to the surface of the polymer (part) with the action of temperature and pressure. This article presents an overview of some existing decorating methods, beginning with a retrieval of the historical context of the processes. To sum up, it is discussed the advantages of replacing the metallization method, the difficulties and adaptations, that can be found, when the in mold label process is ad-opted to metallize polymeric parts.
