As cardiopatias são uma das doenças mais frequentes no mundo. Por esse motivo, o cirurgião-dentista provavelmente receberá vários cardiopatas em seu consultório e deve estar apto para atendê-los. Dentre os vários tipos, a cardiopatia isquêmica, as arritmias e endocardites bacterianas são as que apresentam maior grau de comprometimento cardiovascular. Este estudo tem como objetivo mostrar a importância do conhecimento prévio das principais cardiopatias, suas características, escolha adequada dos anestésicos locais, entre outros fatores que preparam o cirurgião dentista para o atendimento seguro do paciente cardiopata

Heart conditions are one of the most predominant diseases worldwide. Since surgeon dentists are likely to attend these patients in their clinics, they should be able to cope with eventualities. Among the most deleterious types, ischemic heart disease, arrhythmia and bacterial endocarditis present the most harmful cardiovascular risks. Current research shows the importance of previous knowledge on main heart diseases, their characteristics, the right choice in anesthetic and other factors that provide the dentist with the required tools for the safe attendance of heart condition patients.
