Este trabalho pretende analisar alguns aspectos inusitados e
fantásticos do conto “A segunda vida”, de Machado de Assis. A partir da
intromissão mórbida de uma personagem insana na sala de visitas de um
homem religioso em condições de normalidade psíquica, a narrativa nos
permite refletir sobre a intercambiável condição da loucura e da sensatez
humanas – fazendo-nos pensar como as duas, próximas de nós, podem
habitar, contígua e simultaneamente, os mesmos espaços.

Resumo Inglês:

This study aims to analyze some unusual and fantastic aspects of the
story "Second Life" by Machado de Assis. From the morbid meddling of an
insane character, who is in the living room of a religious man in psychic normal
conditions. The narrative allows us to reflect on the interchangeable condition of
madness and human wisdom – leading us think how both of them, which are
close to us, can live contiguous and simultaneously in the same spaces.
