Este artigo busca identificar um padrão de relacionamento entre Brasil e Venezuela através da análise das relações bilaterais entre os dois Estados nas últimas três décadas (1979-2009). Argumenta-se que a aproximação entre os dois países vai além de inclinações ideológicas e faz parte de um projeto de integração de longo curso no subcontinente sul-americano, além de ser proveniente de uma leitura clara do cenário internacional feita pela diplomacia de ambos os países.

This article aims at identifying a pattern in the relationship between Brazil and Venezuela through the analyses of their bilateral relations in the last three decades (1979-2009). It argues that the close ties among the two nations goes beyond ideological inclinations and is part of an integration process in the South American subcontinent, inasmuch as it is a result of a clear reading of the international scenario by the diplomacy of both countries.
