Este artigo persegue a obra de alguns intelectuais da umbanda durante as décadas de 1930 e 1940, sobretudo atendo-se à sua relação com o Estado Novo. Durante este período os intelectuais umbandistas procurarão no estado o seu interlocutor por excelência, tentando afirmar a identidade da nova religião como totalmente acorde com a representação da nação e do estado propalada pelo regime. Assim toma corpo um discurso conciliador e harmônico do Brasil e da umbanda, aproximando-se da visão miscigenada e triádica propalada pelo estado.
This article pursues the work of some intellectuals of Umbanda during the 1930s and 1940s, particularly relying on its relationship with the New State. During this period, the intellectuals of Umbanda looked for their interlocutors par excellence in the state, trying to assert the identity of the new religion as being in total agreement with the nation and the state´s representation touted by the regime. As a result, a conciliatory and harmonic speech of Brazil and of Umbanda takes shape, approaching the mixed and triadic vision touted by the state.
