Dedicamos este artigo à analise do desencontro literário e vital de dois grandes nomes das letras espanholas, Miguel de Cervantes e Lope de Vega. Suas opiniões divergentes sobre a natureza da literatura e sobre a própria vida refletiram em algumas das suas obras, nas quais não hesitaram em trocar desde crÃticas encobertas até menções desabonadoras diretas. Se Cervantes manteve sempre um tom de crÃtica discreta, mesmo que ácida, Lope não duvidou em recorrer ao insulto e ao descrédito quando se sentiu atacado pelo autor do Quixote. De nossa parte, tentaremos penetrar na literatura de ambos para desvelar algumas dessas desavenças, que põem em evidência a dimensão mais humana destes dos grandes gênios do Século de Ouro espanhol.
We dedicate this article to analyze the vital and literary dispute of two of the most
relevant names of the Spanish letters, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega. Their divergent
opinions about literature’s nature and about life itself were reflected on some of their works, in
which they do not doubt to exchange from covered critics to direct discredited mentions. If
Cervantes always kept a discreet critical tone, though acid and sharp, Lope didn’t doubt on
appealing to insult and discredit when feeling threatened by the author of Don Quijote. From
our part, we will try to pierce in their literature to reveal, when possible, some of these
squabbles, revealing the human dimension of these two enormous geniuses of the Spanish
Golden Age.
