As hortaliças desempenham um importante papel social e econômico, fornecendo alimento e gerando
emprego e renda à população. Contribuindo na permanência do homem no campo, no fortalecimento da
agricultura familiar e no desenvolvimento regional. O objetivo deste artigo foi analisar a viabilidade
econômica da produção de hortigranjeiros na Região Norte Fluminense (RJ) e, em especial, da produção de
tomate no municÃpio de Campos dos Goytacazes. O referencial teórico proposto se baseou na análise
econômica e análise de risco de projetos de investimento. A metodologia aplicada inclui os indicadores de
viabilidade econômica BenefÃcio-Custo, Valor Presente LÃquido, Taxa Interna de Retorno, Taxa Interna de
Retorno Modificada e utilização do método de Monte Carlo. Ao final é realizada a aplicação do método para
a produção de tomates no municÃpio de Campos dos Goytacazes.
The vegetables play an important social and economic role, providing food and generating employment and
income to the population. Contributing to the permanence of man in the field, strengthening of family
agriculture and regional development. The aim of this paper was to present a methodology for analyzing the
economic viability of horticultural production in the North Fluminense (RJ). The proposed theoretical
framework is based on economic analysis and risk analysis of investment projects. The methodology
includes the indicators of economic viability Benefit-Cost, Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return,
Modified Internal Rate of Return and use the Monte Carlo method. At the end is accomplished with the
method for the production of tomatoes in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes.
