Com o advento da República, a fisionomia da vila de Imbituba, localizada no Sul de Santa Catarina, foi marcada pelo progresso, obras de infraestrutura e modernização graças a atuação de Henrique Lage. Este artigo enfatiza a reconstituição da memória do passado com um levantamento espaço-temporal, evidenciando os acontecimentos de época, o povoamento açoriano, o estabelecimento da Armação Baleeira, a transformação e a modernização da vila com o planejamento e arruamento, desenvolvimento no setor portuário, como no transporte ferroviário, obras para o (des) embarque do carvão, construção da vila operária, chalés, hotel e outras benfeitorias. Uma Imbituba moderna para a época. Começava o choque com o novo.

With the advent of the Republic, the physiognomy of the village of Imbituba, located
in southern Santa Catarina, was marked by progress, infrastructure, construction and
modernization through the work of Henrique Lage. This article emphasizes the reconstruction of
the memory of the past with a space-time survey, showing the events of the time, the Azorean
population, the establishment of frame whaling, the transformation and modernization of the
planning and village streets, in the port sector development, as in rail, works for the (un) loading
coal, construction workers’ village, chalets, hotel and other improvements. A modern Imbituba
