No
Both in A costa dos murmúrios, by the Portuguese writer LÃdia Jorge, and in Terra sonâmbula, by Mia
Couto, from Mozambique, the conflicts experienced by individuals during the war for the
independence of Mozambique (Africa), which took place between 1965 and 1975, are exposed. In the
Portuguese novel, the war horrors are seen through the eyes of the wife of a Portuguese official who
finds in her writing a way to overcome the awful things she discovers. In Mia Couto's novel the war is
seen through the eyes of a boy who, during the war, finds the diary of another boy who is also a victim
of the recent conflicts in the country. The links between these two novels about the traumatic war
experience and the subsequent uprooting of the individual in a troubled world are established by the
actual writing, in the case of the former, and by obtaining the writing, in the case of the latter.
