Qualquer indivíduo que sofra agressão, opressão e violência, terá sua saúde mental afetada. O racismo, que é a crença da falsa superioridade de certas raças sobre outras, acaba justificando a desigualdade entre os grupos, oprimindo, agredindo e violentando. O objetivo geral deste trabalho foi estudar como a situação de vulnerabilidade da população negra pode afetar a sua saúde mental. O objetivo específico foi verificar como a Psicologia tem enfrentado tal desafio. Para tanto, a metodologia escolhida foi a revisão de literatura, sendo realizadas buscas de publicações científicas especializadas no tema, através de palavras chave, nas plataformas Scielo e Lilacs. O estudo verificou que as concepções racistas do século XIX e início do século XX, no que dizia respeito às características de personalidade ou perfil psicopatológico que se pretendia atribuir à população negra, ainda persistem na mentalidade da sociedade contemporânea, inclusive entre alguns profissionais de Saúde. Observa-se também, que existe pouca publicação acadêmica sobre o tema no Brasil, evidenciando-se a necessidade de mais estudos.Palavras-chave: Racismo; Discriminação; Saúde Mental; População Negra.

Any individual who suffers aggression, oppression and violence will have their mental health affected. Racism, which is the belief in the false superiority of certain races over others, ends up justifying inequality between groups, oppressing, assaulting and violating. The general objective of this work was to study how the situation of vulnerability of the black population can affect their mental health. The specific objective was to verify how Psychology has faced such a challenge. For this, the methodology chosen was the literature review, with searches of scientific publications specialized in the subject, through keywords, on the Scielo and Lilacs platforms. The study found that the racist conceptions of the 19th and early 20th centuries, with regard to the personality characteristics or psychopathological profile that was intended to be attributed to the black population, still persist in the mentality of society in general, and what is worse, among some health professionals. It is also observed that there is little academic publication on the subject in Brazil, evidencing the need for more studies.Keywords:Racism; Discrimination; Mental health; Black population.
