The environmental education advocates the formation of critical citizens and should be worked in a transversal and interdisciplinary way. The objective of this research was to understand the conceptions and practices of teachers of elementary school of public and private systems of the city ItabaianaSE about the environmental education and investigate whether teachers consider environmental education an interdisciplinary theme. The study have quantitative and qualitative research, which involved the participation of twenty teachers. It was observed that environmental education is seen of simplistic and conservationist manner by most teachers. Moreover, teachers in different school systems have different views. While the teachers of private systems have a conservationist view, the public have a concept near of social and environmental.
