The purpose of this paper is to present a review of the electronic properties of semiconductor materials aimed primarily at undergraduate students in physics or related fields and who are interested in making contact with the microscopic aspects that determine these properties. A selection of topics will be offered covering many of the aspects that form the core of this science.
