A Linguística Aplicada é, ainda, uma área recente de estudos das ciências humanas e sociais e, como toda área de produção de conhecimento, encontra-se em pleno processo de desenvolvimento epistemológico. Sendo um campo de estudos plural e heterogêneo, várias perspectivas do estudo da Linguística Aplicada coexistem, em nível mundial, produzindo os mais diferentes trabalhos e teorizações. No Brasil e em grande parte do mundo, uma parcela dos linguistas aplicados em exercício começaram a adentrar-se em novas possibilidades de, por meio de sua área de estudos, entender o mundo social no qual estão inseridos, afastando-se dos antigos paradigmas de pesquisa modernistas e voltando-se para a compreensão do cenário contemporâneo enquanto mestiço, híbrido e indisciplinar. O objetivo deste trabalho é, então, apresentar e analisar duas posturas diferentes adotadas por pesquisadores do campo da LA: a perspectiva modernista de pesquisa em LA e a visão da LA como uma área mestiça, INdisciplinar e “na fronteira”. Para tanto, utilizaremos como principais pressupostos teóricos os apontamentos de Moita Lopes (1996, 2004, 2007, 2008), Fabrício (2008) e Damianovic (2005).
Applied Linguistics is, still, a recent area concerning the studies of the human and social sciences and, like any area that produces knowledge, finds itself in an ongoing process of epistemological development. Since it is a plural and heterogeneous field of studies, several perspectives of study from Applied Linguistics coexist, in worldwide level, producing the most different kinds of papers and theories. In Brazil and in great part of the world, a part of the applied linguistics at work have started to explore different possibilities through, by their field of studies, the understanding of the social world in which they are immersed in, distancing themselves from the ancient modernist paradigms of inquiry and returning to the comprehension of the contemporary scenario seen as mixed, hybrid and INdisciplinary. The objective of this work is, then, to present and analyze two different postures adopted by the researchers from the field of AL: the modernist perspective of inquiry in AL and the AL view as a mixed, INdisciplinary and “on the border” area. Thus, we will use as main theoretical assumptions the writings of Moita Lopes (1996, 2004, 2007, 2008), Fabrício (2008) and Damianovic (2005).
