The wood of Machaonia spinosa Cham. & Schlecht., Is described in its general and microscopic aspects. The anatomical structure shows great similarity with literature references for the genus to which belongs and Rubiaceae family. Among the main characters observed are semi-diffuse porosity, predominantly multiple pores, simple perforation plate, very small and ornate intervascular punctures, scarce paratracheal axial parenchyma, heterogeneous rays with short uniseriate margins, and septate fibers with scores inconspicuously bordered.
