A ideia de inferno ou de um mundo inferior para onde os mortos vão está presente em muitas culturas/religiões. Tendo isso em vista, pretende-se, neste estudo, fazer breves considerações sobre a visão japonesa do inferno e, a partir disso, fazer algumas reflexões sobre o conto The Hell Screen, de Akutagawa Ryûnosuke, discorrendo sobre as técnicas narrativas utilizadas, como metanarrativa, por exemplo, e elementos culturais encontrados no conto. Pretende-se, ainda, tendo como viés alguns teóricos da Literatura Fantástica, discorrer sobre elementos que possivelmente fazem com que o conto se encaixe nessa categoria.
The idea of hell or an underworld where the dead go is present in many cultures / religions. With this in view, it is intended in this study make brief remarks about the Japanese view of hell and, from that, make some reflections on the short story “The Hell Screen” by Akutagawa Ryûnosuke, talking about the narrative techniques, as metanarrative , for example, and cultural elements found in the story. It is also intended, having as bias some theorists of Fantastic Literature, to discuss elements that possibly make the tale fit into this category
