Com o objetivo de refletir sobre o por quê fazer teatro de sombras na cultura contemporânea na qual estamos inseridos, este artigo faz uma breve apresentação da origem do teatro de sombras no mundo e de algumas definições do termo “sombra”. Em seguida procuramos elencar as especificidades da linguagem e destacar sua importância para o contexto contemporâneo. Ao final percebemos que este fazer teatral só faz sentido se as especificidades da linguagem forem respeitadas. A pertinência da presente pesquisa dá- -se ao fato de ser uma reflexão acerca do fazer teatral contemporâneo, especificamente por focar no universo do teatro de sombras, linguagem tão pouco estudada no Brasil e no mundo.
In order to reflect on why do shadow plays in the contemporary culture in which we operate, this article makes a brief presentation of the worlds shadow theater’s origin and some definitions of “shadow.” Then we list the specific characteristics of the language and highlight its importance to the contemporary context. At the end, we realized that this theatrical practice makes sense only if the language’s particularities are respected. The relevance of this research takes place to being a reflection on the contemporary theater making, specifically focusing on the world of shadow theater, language so little studied in Brazil and worldwide.
