Resumo Português:

Este artigo enfatiza a educação escolar vinculada à idéia de progresso no município de Uberabinha,
MG no período da Primeira República. As fontes pesquisadas foram os periódicos “A Tribuna”
(1907­1914)  e  “O Progresso”  (1919­1925). Com  o  auxílio  dessas,  foi  possível  identificar  e
descrever as principais idéias e representações relativas à educação, externadas pela sociedade
uberabinhense na época estudada.

Resumo Inglês:

This article emphasizes the elementary education entailed the idea of progress in the municipality
of Uberabinha, MG  in  the  period  of  the First Republic. The  sources were  researched  the
journals “A Tribuna” (1907­1914) and “O Progresso” (1919­1925). With the aid of  these, it was
possible to identify and describe the main ideas and representations relating to education, shown
by society at the time uberabinhense studied.
