Entre o último cartel do século XIX e a primeira metade do século XX, as funções de beneficiamento e distribuição do algodão, combinadas com a condição de ponta de trilho com localização geográfica privilegiada, fizeram de Campina Grande uma dos principais empórios de comercialização do algodão do país e do mundo. Isso contribuiu, sobremaneira, para um conjunto de transformações espaciais pelas quais a cidade passou, vislumbradas pela imposição de novos objetos e novas ações ao seu arranjo geográfico. O objetivo desse artigo é o de analisar as rugosidades geográficas desse período que permanecem no espaço urbano campinense atual. Para isso, vale-se dos resultados de pesquisas realizadas, pelos autores, e que focalizaram parte da temática desse texto (FARIAS, 2014 e COSTA, 2003). Por fim, conclui-se que as marcas do fausto período algodoeiro ainda podem ser percebidas pelas rugosidades socioespaciais que pontuam a paisagem campinense, algumas “viúvas” (sem função atualmente) e outras preenchidas por novas funções sociais que caracterizam a dinâmica econômica da cidade no presente.
Between the last cartel of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, the cotton processing and distribution functions, combined with the privileged geographical position of the rail, made Campina Grande one of the main commercialization emporiums of country and the world. This contributed, in particular, to a set of spatial transformations through which the city passed, envisioned by the imposition of new objects and new actions on its geographical arrangement. The objective of this article is to analyze the geographic rugosities of this period that remain in the present urban space of Campina Grande. For this, it uses the results of research carried out by the authors, which focused on the theme of this text (FARIAS, 2014 and COSTA, 2003). Finally, it can be concluded that the marks of the faust cotton period can still be perceived by the socio-spatial rugosities that dot the Campina Grande landscape, some "widows" (no function currently) and others filled by new social functions that characterize the city's economic dynamics nowadays
