Neste artigo o autor tenta compreender os significados da escravidão e da retórica do protesto na cidade de Teresina-Pi nos anos de 1870-1888. Discute também, a constituição da Força Policial na Província do Piauí e sua tentativa em implantar uma política de controle social a fim de reprimir os “grupos subalternos” da cidade: escravos, libertos e homens livres de cor.
In this article the author examine the experiences of blacks, and freed captives, and their conflicts with society teresinense slave of the nineteenth century.
