Este artigo consiste na análise da ordenação dos advérbios locativos em textos opinativos dos séculos XVIII e XIX sob os pressupostos do funcionalismo norte-americano. Verificamos o perfil dos autores em relação ao público-alvo às quais as obras são destinadas, pois acreditamos que essa característica influencia o modo de utilização dos locativos. Observamos também os processos de mudança e variação que levaram à gramaticalização, à polissemia, característica desses usos, e à ordenação dos advérbios locativos em relação ao verbo da sentença. Os dados analisados mostram que, nas obras do século XVIII pesquisadas, grande parte dos advérbios encontra-se em posição pré-verbal, que é considerada a posição mais regular dos advérbios em sincronias mais antigas da língua portuguesa. Por outro lado, no século XIX, a ordenação do advérbio pronominal locativo tende a ser pós-verbal, situando-se o advérbio em geral imediatamente após o verbo. Acreditamos também que a grande ocorrência de espaços “abstratos” ou virtuais seja por conta do gênero opinativo e da maior frequência de sequências expositivas presentes nos textos.

This article is an analysis of the sort of locative adverbs opinion pieces in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries under the assumptions of American North functionalism. We check the profile of the authors in relation to the target audience to which the works are intended, because we believe that this characteristic influences the manner of use of locatives. We also observed the process of change and variation that led to the grammaticalization, characterized the polysemy of these uses and the ordering of locative adverbs in relation to the verb of the sentence. The data analyzed show that, in eighteenth- century works surveyed, most adverbs are in preverbal position, which is considered more regular position of adverbs in synchronicities of the oldest in the English language. On the other hand, in the nineteenth century, the ordering of pronominal locative adverb tends to be after verbal, reaching the adverb usually immediately after the verb. We also believe that the high occurrence of spaces “abstract” or virtual gender is due to the opinionated and the more frequent sequences present in expository texts.
