Muito se debateu, e ainda se debate, sobre as contribuições das teorias pós-modernas à História. Buscaremos, neste artigo, situar o contexto de surgimento e as definições dadas ao conjunto dessas teorias, no intuito de analisar a obra A Condição Pós-Moderna, de Jean-François Lyotard. Esta análise verificará tanto as ideias centrais do autor sobre os saberes, quanto os diálogos que estabelece com outros pensadores. Embora considerada por muitos estudiosos uma obra datada, tendo sido alvo de duras críticas, nosso principal objetivo é perceber em que medida seus postulados podem se aplicar ao fazer historiográfico. Objetivamos igualmente demonstrar que muito das críticas voltadas ao dito paradigma pós-moderno não se aplicam às ideias de Lyotard, bem como estas se conciliam de maneira enriquecedora e crítica ao saber histórico.
Much has been discussed and there is still debate about the contributions of postmodern theories to history. We intend, in this article, to situate the context of emergence and the definitions given to these theories in order to analyze the book The Postmodern Condition, by Jean-François Lyotard. This analysis verifies both the author´s central ideas about knowledge, as the dialogues he establishes with other thinkers. Although considered by many scholars a dated work, having been the target of harsh criticism, our main objective is to realize the extent to which its principles can apply to History writing. We aim also to demonstrate that much of the criticism directed to the said “postmodern paradigm” does not apply to the ideas of Lyotard, as well as these ideas can be reconciled in enriching and critical ways to historical knowledge.
