O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma breve contribuição sobre três tópicos importantes para a consecução de uma pesquisa bem embasada em Ciência Política: desenho de pesquisa, inferência e causalidade. Estudantes na fase inicial de treinamento em metodologia de pesquisa aplicada à Ciência Política são o público-alvo do texto. O que é e como desenvolver um desenho de pesquisa adequado? Como realizar inferências válidas? É possível identificar causalidade entre variáveis nas investigações sociais e políticas? Por meio de uma descrição da importância de cada um desses componentes dentro da pesquisa em Ciência Política, discutimos as principais contribuições que a literatura sobre o tema tem levantado.
The aim of this paper is to present a contribution on three important topics for achieving a well-grounded research in Political Science: research design, inference and causality. Students in initial phase of training in research methodology applied to Political Science are the target audience of the text. What it is and how to develop an appropriate research design? How to draw valid inferences? Is it possible to identify causality between variables in social and political investigations? Through a description of the importance of each of these components within the research in Political Science, we discuss the main contributions raised by the literature on the subject.
