Este trabalho discute o caráter conceitual das instituições e seu papel no processo de desenvolvimento econômico, por meio da formação de estruturas de incentivos que modelam o comportamento humano e suas relações sociais e econômicas. A reflexão teórica baseia-se nos trabalhos dos neoinstitucionalistas Douglass North (2010, 2011) e Acemoglu e Robinson (2012) que propuseram uma agenda de pesquisas que define os arranjos institucionais como elementos indispensáveis para as interpretações dos fenômenos sociais. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória norteada pela revisão sistemática da literatura, cujos suportes teóricos demonstraram os aspectos funcionais das instituições nos trabalhos de ciências sociais.
This paper discusses the conceptual character of the institutions and their role in the economic development process through the formation of incentive structures that shape human behavior and its social and economic relations. The theoretical reflection is based on the work of neo-institutionalist Douglass North (2010, 2011) and Acemoglu and Robinson (2012) who proposed a research agenda that defines the institutional frameworks as indispensable elements for the interpretation of social phenomena. It is an exploratory research guided by systematic literature review, whose theoretical support demonstrated the functional aspects of the institutions in the work of social sciences.
