A Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina - UDESC, possui o programa de extensão universitária Grupo de Estudos da Terceira Idade - GETI, constituído, desde sua criação, há 25 anos. O objetivo deste estudo é descrever o percurso histórico do GETI, suas ações de extensão e sua integração com o ensino e a pesquisa. Esse percurso demonstra o avanço crescente dos projetos de extensão, bem como na sua atuação no ensino e na pesquisa. O GETI foi criado em 1989 e suas ações possuíam um caráter educacional não possuía uma sede e suas reuniões, geralmente aconteciam nas instalações da reitoria. Em 1996 a partir das ações mais efetivas de professores do Centro de Ciências da Saúde e do Esporte- CEFID, o GETI passou a ser sediado neste Centro. Desde então, suas ações foram ampliadas com um aumento do número de participantes da terceira idade, de professores, funcionários e discentes da Graduação e Pós- Graduação. Atualmente o GETI tem 17 ações de extensão, nove de cunho de atividades físicas, quatro sócio-educativas e culturais, e três de cunho fisioterapêutico, atingindo aproximadamente 400 pessoas da terceira idade, 20 discentes e 10 docentes. Dessa forma, com tal estrutura o GETI demonstra sua relevância social na atuação comunitária, formação de recursos humanos, produção do conhecimento e inovações. Por meio do GETI a UDESC tem contribuído no desenvolvimento educacional, social e econômico de Santa Catarina.
The University of the State of Santa Catarina - UDESC, has the universitarian extension program Group of Studies of the Senior Age - GETI, built, since it's creation, 25 years ago. The aim of this study is to describe the history path of GETI, it's actions of extension and it's integration with the teaching and searching. This path show the growing advance of the extension projects, as long as it's row on the teaching and searching. GETI was created in 1989 ans it's actions had a educational character, didn't had headquarters and its meetings usually happened on the rectorship facilities. In 1996 from the more effective actions of the teachers of the Center of Science of the Health and Sport - CEFID, the GETI began to be placed in this Center. Since then, its actions have been enlarged with the rising on the number of participants of the senior age, of professors, employes and students of the graduation. Actually the GETI has 17 actions of extension, nine of physical activity, four socialeducative and cultural, and three about physiotherapy, reaching about 400 people of the senior age, 20 students and 10 teachers. This way, with such structure the GETI shows it's social relevance on the community actuation, formation of human resource, production of knowledge and inovation. Through GETI the UDESC has contributed on the educational, social and economical development of Santa Catarina.
