O artigo discute a hipótese de que a metafísica da natureza de Schopenhauer pode ser melhor compreendida à luz do desenvolvimento pelo qual passam seus conceitos de matéria e representação ao longo da elaboração de sua obra. Defende que tais conceitos são modificados a partir do diálogo que o autor trava com certos filósofos, entre os quais destacar-se-ia Spinoza. Pretende mostrar que o pensamento deste último serve de alvo da crítica do alemão à noção de absoluto e pode tornar mais clara o alcance e o sentido da posição de Schopenhauer frente ao Idealismo Alemão. Defende que a filosofia de Spinoza teria especial relevância para a compreensão da complexa relação entre os conceitos de matéria, absoluto e substância, com os quais Schopenhauer distanciar-se-ia tanto do pensamento de Schelling quanto de Hegel.
The article discusses the hypothesis that the metaphysical nature of Schopenhauer may be better understood in the light of development which are their concepts of matter and representation throughout the preparation of his work. Argues that such concepts are modified from the dialogue that the author hangs with certain philosophers, including highlight would Spinoza.
