A pesquisadiscutiua relevância dos arquivos públicos municipais enquanto lugares de memóriade Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, em especial o Arquivo do poder executivo. Traçouum panorama de constituição desta instituiçãoarquivística até os dias atuais com intuito de investigare mostraro contexto de sua criação e a existência de uma política de preservação cultural atuante no Município. O estudo objetivou expor a gestão da memória local por meio da preservação do seu patrimônio documental, especificamente da Prefeitura Municipal. A metodologia adotada para realização da pesquisa consistiuna discussão teórico-metodológica acerca do assunto, bem como análise e interpretação de documentos que narram a história do referido Arquivo e, consequentemente da cidade. Dialogamos comanálises historiográficasna tentativa de detectaras nuances da preservação da memória nas cidades, enfocando a memória arqueologizadano patrimônio documental de Montes Claros. Os resultados apontados constatarama importância desse órgão de documentação para a (des)(re)construção dashistóriasde um lugar e de seus sujeitos por meioda preservação e conservação do patrimônio documental, pois, sem ele, o homem perde alguns dos seus referencias enquanto cidadão. The research discussed therelevance of the municipal public archives as places of memory of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, theExecutive File. The results pointed to the importance of this body of documentation for the (des) (re) construction of the stories of a place and its subject through the preservation and conservation of the documentaryheritage, because, without it, the man loses some of its as areference.
